Procrastination is the universal enemy of everyone who likes to get stuff done. So, what is procrastination? It is when someone purposely puts off doing something even though they know there will be negative consequences for doing so. We are all guilty of procrastination. For instance, I will sometimes put of my writing assignments for days. Then I end up having to do like 4 at a time to catch up, which isn’t fun.

procrastination is bad sign

Another awful aspect of procrastination is that the longer you do it the harder it is to stop. I can also verify this point with my experience. One day, I started writing a short story. I was very excited at the start but soon I found myself procrastinating. I would always say to myself “I am going to continue writing tomorrow” but, I never would. Now I have basically given up on the project because I haven’t found a reason to do it for 8 months. This is how deadly procrastination can be.

Procrastination also varies in severity and form. In my opinion, the worst form of it is when someone puts off starting their own business. I have heard stories of people who have great business ideas but they would always procrastinate. Then someone else would come in and fill that niche themselves. Now that first person has lost a great opportunity this is because they procrastinated. If that person had just started sooner they could potentially be the happy owner of a successful business.

As you can see, procrastination is a deadly foe. We are all guilty of it. The best thing we can do is to try to minimize it in their lives. This will make you more productive and successful overall. Maybe now you will have the courage to go finish the project you always put off.
